Marsa Sports Club was pleased to participate in SportMalta’s “Celebrating Sport in Malta” event, represented by Club Chairman Mr. Godwin Borg. The event brought together national federations, associations and sports clubs from across Malta, highlighting the shared effort that goes into building and sustaining sport locally.

Recognising the role of clubs in Maltese sport

Sport in Malta depends on a strong network of organisations working across different disciplines, age groups and levels of participation. Events such as this provide an opportunity to acknowledge the contribution of clubs and federations — not only in competitive sport, but also in creating regular opportunities for training, coaching, community activity and long-term athlete development.

Marsa Sports Club has long been committed to this role, supporting sport through its facilities, coaching structures, tournaments, and ongoing section activity throughout the year.

Support for the 2026 sporting season

A key part of the occasion was the presentation of financial and logistical assistance for the 2026 sporting season. SportMalta reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening sport at all levels, supporting organisations that deliver programmes, maintain facilities, and provide structured pathways for athletes.

Marsa Sports Club welcomed the assistance granted, which will contribute towards strengthening the Club’s sporting programmes, improving facilities, and supporting athlete development initiatives across the Club.

Appreciation for SportMalta’s continued commitment

On behalf of the Club, Chairman Mr. Godwin Borg expressed sincere appreciation to SportMalta for its ongoing support and dedication to the sporting community. Sustained support is essential for clubs to continue improving standards, investing in facilities, and expanding participation opportunities for members and athletes of all ages.

Looking ahead

Marsa Sports Club looks forward to continuing its collaboration with SportMalta and to playing an active role in the continued growth of sport in Malta. The Club remains committed to delivering high-quality sporting experiences, supporting its sections, and ensuring that sport remains accessible, well-organised, and sustainable for the years ahead.

Snooker has long been part of the Club’s story, and this tournament is an opportunity to give it the platform it deserves again. We look forward to seeing the tables in full use and welcoming members to the Snooker Tournament 2026.

The cricket section of Marsa Sports Club proudly hosted the inaugural MSC Glynn-Hewitt T20 Cup, a 10-team tournament played over four action-packed weeks, featuring two games a day. The event delivered exciting cricket, new rivalries, and standout performances that set a strong foundation for what promises to become a long-standing annual tradition.

Road to the Final

Semi-Final 1: Swieqi United CC vs Msida Warriors CC

Swieqi United held their nerve to secure a 9-run win in a tight, low-scoring semi-final. Their bowlers kept disciplined lines, defending a modest total with composure at the death.

Semi-Final 2: Gozo CC vs Gozo Zalmi CC

Gozo CC produced a dominant performance, defeating Gozo Zalmi by 75 runs.

The Grand Finale: Swieqi United CC vs Gozo CC

In a well-contested final, Gozo CC set a competitive target, but Swieqi United chased it down in just 16 overs to win by 6 wickets.

Tournament Awards

A Special Family Moment — Honouring the Legacy of Wally Glynn

The tournament proudly carries the name of the late Wally & Ernie Glynn as well as Gordon Hewitt, cherished figures in the club’s history. Representing the Glynn family at the final was Wally’s granddaughter, Tracy Glynn, who had the honour of presenting the trophy to the champions.

Tracy grew up at Marsa Sports Club, often spending weekends and holidays with her Nanu, Wally, who introduced her to the vibrant community and atmosphere of the club. She shared heartfelt memories of her childhood at MSC — stories of long afternoons at the ground, family gatherings, and the warmth of the cricketing community that shaped her early years.

Her presence added a deeply meaningful touch to the final, connecting the club’s past to its exciting future. The tournament not only celebrated competitive cricket but also honoured the heritage and people who helped shape the club across generations.

A Tournament to Remember

The inaugural MSC Glynn-Hewitt T20 Cup delivered everything fans could hope for — big performances, dramatic finishes, and a strong sense of community. Congratulations to Swieqi United, to all individual award winners, and to every team that brought energy and passion to the competition.

Here’s to many more editions of the Glynn-Hewitt T20 Cup — and to growing cricket in Malta even further. 🏏💙
