Staying Informed

Members are encouraged to keep an eye on the Club’s website and official communication channels for further details, registration information, and any updates related to individual events.

January sets the tone for the year ahead, with activity across all sections of the Club.

After many years of quiet tables, snooker is officially back at Marsa Sports Club.

As part of the revival of the Indoor Games Section, the Club will be launching a Snooker Tournament in early 2026, giving members the chance to return to (or discover) one of the Club’s more traditional games in an organised, competitive format.

The tournament will run at the Club from 26th January to 8th March 2026, with all matches played in the MSC snooker rooms. It is open to Marsa Sports Club members, and entries are now being accepted.

Tournament details

The Snooker Tournament 2026 will be played in a round-robin format, with matches scheduled across the tournament period.

Full conditions, format and rules are listed on the official application form and event page, but in brief:

• Tournament dates: 26 January – 8 March 2026

• Closing date for entries: Friday, 16 January 2026

• Eligibility: Marsa Sports Club members

• Entry fee: €15 per player

The tournament is organised by the Indoor Games Section, led by George O. Attard and Alex Cutajar, who will oversee scheduling, results and overall coordination.

A fresh start for the Indoor Games Section

This tournament is the first step in rebuilding a regular programme for the Indoor Games Section at Marsa Sports Club. After a number of years with little formal snooker activity, the aim is to:

• Bring players back to the snooker rooms in a structured way

• Offer members another way to enjoy the Club outside of outdoor sports

• Lay the groundwork for future events and social activities around indoor games

Members of all ages and backgrounds who enjoy snooker – whether regularly or occasionally – are encouraged to take part and support the section’s relaunch.

Snooker has long been part of the Club’s story, and this tournament is an opportunity to give it the platform it deserves again. We look forward to seeing the tables in full use and welcoming members to the Snooker Tournament 2026.

The cricket section of Marsa Sports Club proudly hosted the inaugural MSC Glynn-Hewitt T20 Cup, a 10-team tournament played over four action-packed weeks, featuring two games a day. The event delivered exciting cricket, new rivalries, and standout performances that set a strong foundation for what promises to become a long-standing annual tradition.

Road to the Final

Semi-Final 1: Swieqi United CC vs Msida Warriors CC

Swieqi United held their nerve to secure a 9-run win in a tight, low-scoring semi-final. Their bowlers kept disciplined lines, defending a modest total with composure at the death.

Semi-Final 2: Gozo CC vs Gozo Zalmi CC

Gozo CC produced a dominant performance, defeating Gozo Zalmi by 75 runs.

The Grand Finale: Swieqi United CC vs Gozo CC

In a well-contested final, Gozo CC set a competitive target, but Swieqi United chased it down in just 16 overs to win by 6 wickets.

Tournament Awards

A Special Family Moment — Honouring the Legacy of Wally Glynn

The tournament proudly carries the name of the late Wally & Ernie Glynn as well as Gordon Hewitt, cherished figures in the club’s history. Representing the Glynn family at the final was Wally’s granddaughter, Tracy Glynn, who had the honour of presenting the trophy to the champions.

Tracy grew up at Marsa Sports Club, often spending weekends and holidays with her Nanu, Wally, who introduced her to the vibrant community and atmosphere of the club. She shared heartfelt memories of her childhood at MSC — stories of long afternoons at the ground, family gatherings, and the warmth of the cricketing community that shaped her early years.

Her presence added a deeply meaningful touch to the final, connecting the club’s past to its exciting future. The tournament not only celebrated competitive cricket but also honoured the heritage and people who helped shape the club across generations.

A Tournament to Remember

The inaugural MSC Glynn-Hewitt T20 Cup delivered everything fans could hope for — big performances, dramatic finishes, and a strong sense of community. Congratulations to Swieqi United, to all individual award winners, and to every team that brought energy and passion to the competition.

Here’s to many more editions of the Glynn-Hewitt T20 Cup — and to growing cricket in Malta even further. 🏏💙

The Marsa Sports Club’s Cricket Section Committee, together with members of the main club committee, held a meeting with the Mayor of Marsa, Mr. Luke Farrugia, to discuss future plans for the development of cricket within the local community and across Malta.

Also present were Mr. Pierre Azzopardi, Director of Sundreams Travel, and Mr. Fabrizio Ferruggia, Director of Ferruggia Fleet — both key sponsors and long-term supporters of the Marsa Sports Club.

The meeting centred on strengthening initiatives to promote cricket among the youth of Malta, beginning with the Marsa community. Plans were discussed to expand youth training programmes, school outreach projects, and community-based cricket events aimed at fostering inclusivity, teamwork, and healthy lifestyles.

Sundreams Travel continues to play an important role by bringing international touring teams to Malta, which enhances local cricket while also promoting the island as a destination for sports tourism. Ferruggia Fleet, a proud Marsa-based business, remains an essential local partner and supporter of the club’s ongoing development efforts.
